My partner doesn’t like having their picture taken. Is that okay?

It’s totally fine. Most people haven’t had their picture taken since their high school graduation so it totally makes sense why they don’t love having their picture taken. They aren’t used to it and are out of practice. I spend time getting to know my clients before i even pick up my camera. After we have spent some time together we will begin taking pictures and people tend to forget about the camera. We just have fun and there is no pressure. Usually by the end of the shoot, the person who wasn’t a fan of having their photo taken says that they had a great time and didn’t even think about the fact that we were taking pictures.

What if we know we want to book you but aren’t sure which package we want?

That happens all the time. You can send me your deposit to secure your date and decide which package you want later. My clients can change their package all the way up to the day of the wedding.

What if something horrible happens to you and you can’t photograph our wedding?

This has never happened before but i suppose it could…. I have a huge network of extremely talented wedding photographers in the portland area and would call on them to see who is available on the day of your wedding. I would gather a list of people that i know and trust and send it to you for you to pick. I would have that photographer shoot the wedding and then i would edit the photos and handle the rest. If you aren’t satisfied with this idea, i will refund you.

Do you meet with people before you book?

I would love to meet up for a coffee or beer to see if we vibe. But i also understand that my clients have a life and are busy so it’s no pressure. I usually get people on the phone/skype before we book at the very least. If you want to plan a time to meet, that’s awesome. If not, that’s also great. I promise i can show my personality over the phone just as well as in person. I never say no to a drank though.

What happens after we decide to book you?

Once you decide you want to book me, i’ll email over a contract. You sign it and return it with your deposit. Deposits are mostly done online with a credit card but you can pay with a check if you’d prefer that. We can now start planning your engagement session if you have booked one. 4 weeks out from your wedding we will finalize your day of timeline and shot list. Fast forward to your wedding day —> i show up 30 minutes early to scout the grounds for the best light and photo spots- shoot the wedding and then within 48 hours i send you a preview with 50+ images. Your final gallery is sent within 6 weeks.

How long have you been a wedding photographer?

I became a professional photographer in 2012 but started with family photography. I went to a wedding photography workshop in early 2017 where i learned that i actually loved wedding photography and came back to portland and hit the ground running. This will be my fourth year of shooting weddings. You can see my family photography here.

Can I have the raw images?

That’s a big fat no. Raw images are straight out of the camera and have no editing done at all. One of the main reasons you hired me is for my style and expertise with editing. The raws are completely unfinished images and not ready to be given to away. It’s photography industry standard to not give raws to clients.

Does it matter if you have shot at our venue before?

It would be awesome if i have shot at your venue before because that means i’ll know good spots for photos and the quirks of the venue. But if i haven’t- it’s no problem. I will show up early and get the know the venue, talk with the venue coordinator ahead of time to ask her any details i should know, and research photos of the venue. I am a professional so please trust that i can work with any venue. I know how to find the best light and places to take photos. I’ve got this.

Do we have to do an engagement session?

Engagement sessions are completely up to you but i highly recommend them. They are a great way to practice taking photos for your wedding day and we get amazing photos you can share with your family and friends. They are also a great way for us to get to know one another before the wedding and you can begin to feel comfortable around me. That way when i show up to your wedding you’ll already know how i work and i know how you both work. Most of my wedding packages come with a complimentary engagement session but if yours doesn’t- you can add it on for $500.
